It is June, and this year’s summer holidays will be different from all the others. In Tobias’s homeland, a terrible war has just come to an end. While the adults remain in the city to work and repair the damage caused by the war, the children are sent to the countryside, where the war has left fewer scars.

Tobias hopes to find a farm with kind people, where milk and butter are plentiful. Instead, he ends up far away, on an island, with Lotte, a gloomy and silent fisherwoman.

Then, one day, Tobias discovers a locked room in Lotte’s house, filled with mysterious drawings. His curiosity is awakened, and he soon begins to uncover an old mystery. Who was the child who once lived in that house? What happened at the fire-damaged lighthouse on the edge of the cliffs? And who is the Windmaker, really?

This book is illustrated by Lisa Aisato.
